MESSAGE FROM SHIVA MANDIR

The following was received in meditation through the grace of Lord Shiva by Nafeeah Kim Johnson as a New Year’s Message.

Now is the time to use every useful spiritual tool ever given to you. We are advised to be regular and devoted in our spiritual practices. Prepare to sustain yourself as if to find your way through an ascending labyrinth of rapid evolution. This will not happen in one season or one year. Strengthen your body’s health to face increasing challenges. Do not tax your physical system. It will be increasingly harder to recover from fatigue for a time as global energy patterns realign. Do not be dismayed or grief stricken as you see many fine and noble souls leave this world early or unexpectedly. They are urgently needed in other realms. Nurture and protect your young in every way you can, especially protect them from attitudes of despondency and hopelessness. There is much they will be called on to do if their hearts remain clear and focused.

As this epoch of time draws to a close, Shiva has taken position to begin his Dance of the Destruction of Ignorance. Around the globe, systems of governance that are domineering, evil and overgrown will be dismantled. Institutions that are stale and heartless will be adjourned. Structures that are decaying will collapse upon themselves. Although there are many prophecies and predictions, even those abiding in angelic realms do not know how events will unfold. Karmic sequence and lines of destiny are constantly being restructured moment-by-moment as new choices are being made within the hearts of humans.

The crucial choice is for a new relationship with the Divine. Life on earth is changing. The gates between Heaven and Earth are being flung open. Every altar can give the presence of God. Every prayer can be answered before it is offered. God is asking for a new partnership. Placed together like spokes in a wheel with a common axis, this can be the integration of the Human and the Divine.

Nafeeah is the founding director of Shiva Mandir. She has been a teacher of the Vedic and yogic traditions for over 35 years. With special interest and training in Ayurveda, Raga and devotional music and sacred art, she founded Shiva Mandir in 1997 for the promotion of Vedic Studies.

DIALOGUE

QUESTION: What is “Jyotish,” Vedic Astrology and how does it work?

ANSWER:     Jyotish (also known as Vedic Astrology) is one of the predictive sciences of the Vedas. Jyotish is based on the premise that all of life is guided by intelligence and order is inherent in nature. The laws of nature are sequential. For example, a bud becomes a flower. The flower fades and a fruit is formed. If the sequence is known, any part of the sequence can be pinpointed and projections can be made forward to know the future or backwards to know the past.

The laws of nature are universal and interconnected. Each field of knowledge informs other fields of knowledge. Because of the interconnectedness of knowledge, sequencing information from one field potentially can be applied to any other field. From this premise, Jyotish takes the longest lived and largest systems in the universe, the planetary systems, to use as reference points for predicting sequences and trends.

In Jyotish the planets are not regarded simply as physical masses moving in space, they are understood to structures of cosmic intelligence that have a direct corollary in human structure --- “as is the universe, so is the individual.” The intelligence that administers the cosmos also administers human life and evolution. Jyotish interprets the patterns of the interactions of the planets with the universe to predict human destinies. “Jyotish” means “light” in Sanskrit. Jyotish shines light on or illuminates the trends of time.

QUESTION: In our Ramayana class discussion, we wondered how much the narrative changes in an epic poem as the story is told and retold, condensed and commented on, and how much of the message is eternal, nonchanging and pure? Some parts of the Ramayana seem to us to be strongly influenced by cultural values of ancient India, and not that applicable to modern times. Does anyone have any thoughts on this???
