CEREMONIES: PUJAS AND HOMAS |
Mondays
Sept. 13 & 27
7:30-9 pm |
Shiva Homa, AARTI and HEALING MEDITATION
Monday (“Moon-day”) is a traditional day to honor Shiva. At
Shiva Mandir, we have Homas (fire ceremony) on the second
and fourth Mondays of the month. It’s been said that sitting
at a Homa is about the equivalent of a month’s meditation.
Participating regularly in Homas strengthens health and
mental clarity. As part of our gathering, we will also have
a healing meditation focused on ourselves, one another and
the world.
Please bring a fruit or flower and a monetary offering of
any amount to activate your participation |

LUNAR
OBSERVANCES |
|
Modern science tells us that the Moon governs the wind
patterns, tides and the growth and hormonal cycles of all
living beings on this earth. Consciously incorporating the
lunar energies into our spiritual practices and honoring the
moon phases speeds our personal progress. The Full Moon is
called Purnima in the Vedic tradition and is presided over
by Mother Divine. It is a good time to bring plans and
activities to fruition. Connecting with Full Moon energy
helps strengthen mental and emotional functions and soothes
the nervous system.
The Vedic name for the New Moon is Amavasya and it is presided over by Shiva. It is a powerful
time to germinate new ideas and projects, and create circles
of protection for our life. Donations are requested.

blissful meditation. The singing is accompanied with a
rhythmic drumming style that transports the chanters to
profound
spiritual realms. |

Lakshmi’s
Garden
at Shiva
Mandir.
This
community garden is tended, cultivated and harvested by
devoted hands. The food raised is given away to local area
shelters. This year a new gardening technique called “permaculture,”
a sustainable and completely organic method, has been
implemented. This fall, volunteers are needed for moving
plants, cleaning beds and composting and autumn planting.
