The Vedas are an ancient body of knowledge dating back at least 5,000 years from the lands of what is now known as India and the Middle East. Many of the world’s traditions trace their origins back to the Vedas and all systems of yogic knowledge descend from the Vedas. The Vedas are preserved in the oldest known texts on earth and have given rise to a continuous investigation into the nature of life and consciousness.
Nada Bindu: The Vedic Exploration of Sound,
Music and Speech
In the five lessons of this course, we will explore how vibration emerges from silence which becomes frequency and manifests as sound and form. We will investigate rhythm, speech, music and the material world as originating from the same as all point in creation, the Nada Bindu. Our exploration will include various systems of global music, world poetry, structure of the Sanskrit language and the science of acoustics.
The class will meet on Wednesdays from 7 to 9 pm on the following dates: October 4, 11, November 1, 8 and 15. Tuition is $108, sliding scale available if needed. Taught by Channing Johnson and Nafeeah Kim. Please register by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org.
